Introduction
As I’m a new volunteer working here for a work placement, I experienced Templesprings Autumn Holiday club 2024 . My first Holiday club with Templesprings Music Centre. Knowing how well this place is run I knew the day was going to go smooth with no problems. I ended up being right as from 10am-2pm everything was run perfectly. Continue Reading to find out how our Templesprings Holiday Club autumn 2024 proceeded.
First the students came in and registered their attendance. They were then ushered into studio 3 to get started and were then introduced to the day plan. The children were then getting prepared to go to the Grays beach park. I was in the kitchen preparing the ham and chicken rolls alongside a member of staff and i moved onto cutting the fruit into smaller chunks. After this we set off for the park.
Grays Beach Park
There was Four members of staff and three volunteers to ensure the safety of the children whilst crossing the roads and walking through Grays town centre. The three volunteers carried the children’s water bottles and footballs for them to play with when we arrived.
The students Enjoyed themselves at the park so much they didn’t realise it was time to go back after one hour!
Lunchtime!
When we arrived back at Templesprings the children were ready to eat. The table was already set up with the Food on it alongside some additional sauces. Some of the children preferred to bring in a packed lunch so they ate from that instead. All in all there after the children were finished, there was no more rolls left which leaves me room to think that they enjoyed it!
Final Activity
The children were then taken into studio 1 to watch a video on animation whilst the volunteers were cleaning studio 3 up. When it was clean the children were brought back and were sorted into two groups, ‘group 1’ and ‘group 2’. They were then given paper and was asked to draw any character that they would like to see get animated. They had 30 minutes on this.
Only one drawing from each group would be chosen so a vote was needed. The winners were ‘Gojo’ and ‘Mirabel’.
To end the day of the children were taken into studio 1 to have a dance break. Which they enjoyed so much they did not want to go home! Here’s information on why dance breaks are important. Here’s the link!
From a new volunteers point of view this day was run perfectly and it excites me what is in store for the future. Templesprings Autumn Holiday club 2024 Day 1 was a success!
Day 2 of Templesprings Autumn Holiday club 2024
The children arrived all on time. Their names were registered and they were sent to studio 3 to catch up. There was some new faces that were not here on day 1 but the children seemed to know them anyways! As everyone was on time today we left for the park earlier than yesterday.
Our walk to the park consisted of 3 members of staff and five volunteers. This is to keep the children safe when walking and keeping them safe from any potential dangers on the street. The walk to the park took about 15 mins.
Grays Beach Park
We reached the park and the children were let off to go play. They had more time to play this time since we left earlier than usual. They didn’t stop running and enjoyed multiple games like football, basketball and even digging holes in the sand. Some of the students even ran into some school friends at the park! By the time we were finished and ready to go home the students were exhausted with sand all in their shoes! The walk back to Templesprings went well as one more member of staff joined us.
Lunchtime!
The tables were set up with the food placed on it. Ham and Chicken rolls with extra sauces available. The kids enjoyed it this time round again and managed to finish all the food. After the rolls were finished, chopped fruit pieces were brought out in case anyone wasn’t fulfilled by the rolls. The children enjoyed these fruits and left the plate empty.
Final Activity
It was now time for the final activity. Whilst the students were sent into studio 1. The helpers and volunteers were in studio 3 setting up and cleaning up for the next activity the students were going to complete. When everything was set up and ready, the students were ushered back into the room and were given an activity. The activity was to create a storyboard for the animation with the characters from yesterdays winning groups. The children thoroughly enjoyed this activity and some even requested more time to create more storyboards!
Home time!
The students were prepared to go home and a dance break was prepared for them until parents came to pick them up.
Day 2 of the Templesprings Autumn Holiday club 2024 was successful and really run well, The same as day 1!
Day 3 of Templesprings Autumn Holiday club 2024
We were a little short of students today with seven students attending. We still made the most of the day!
Firstly, We registered the students as they came in and directed them to go and relax in studio 3 as it was still quite early. After everyone was settled we thought it would be the perfect time to go the park as the sun was shining!
Grays Beach Park
As we had lesser people the walk to the park was quicker. less students means lesser staff so one staff member and three volunteers went to the park with the children. As we arrived at the park we unzipped the bags full of balls and let the children go enjoy themselves at the park. The students participated in various activities such as going on the zipline which boosted their confidence. By the time we had to go the kids shoes were filled with sand! It was very difficult to get out but we got there in the end. We packed our stuff and headed back.
Lunch Time
For lunch we switched it up a little. Before we started eating we said a little prayer. We had cheese toasties and fruits. They were so good they were finished in minutes! Some Students even requested more. We decided to give them fruits and we had a little surprise for them later. As the students were conversing we brought a tray with foil on it. It was cookies! The children couldn’t wait to eat these cookies. They were also finished in seconds!
Voice acting!
After lunch it was time to voice act. All the children were taking into studio 1 and was shown a video on how various characters in cartoons can be voiced by one person. After this the students were then given a script to read off and put their own voice over it. This was successful as they were nervous at first but once they got the feel of it they were fully confident.
Home time.
After that previous activity it was home time. the students were allowed to play any instrument of their choice (ones they haven’t played before) until their parents came to pick them up.
Although numbers were short we still enjoyed our day 3 of the Holiday club!
Day 4 of the Templesprings Autumn Holiday club 2024
There was a few more children registered today. They arrived on time and coats, packed lunches, bags and water bottles were all sorted for them. After all the play equipment was brought out the cupboard for the children they were all set to leave.
The park
There was three staff and five members from the C3 program that accompanied the children to the park. To ensure their safety the volunteers and members of staff wore hi-vis vests and the children were made to wear sports bibs. The children enjoyed themselves going on the slide this time and playing football. They also went on the swings and they wasn’t pleased to go back to Templesprings because of the fun they were having!
Lunch Time
The kids had something special today! They had macaroni and cheese! All of them really enjoyed it and even wanted more! A lot was made and none of it remained. Some of the kids also brought in a packed lunch so they got to enjoy that as well. After the C3 program students cleaned up the studio.
Activity One
Once studio 3 was cleaned up the kids were sent back in there. They were given an activity to first create sound effects for their animation project. After this they were given a music activity to make music that goes from a tense sound to a more happy and calm sound. At the end one sound effect and two songs would be chosen to go into the animation. They enjoyed this task and it allowed them to be very creative with what sounds and what instruments will be used.
Home time
After the sound effects and music tracks were voted on it was time to go home. The final product of the animation will be ready by Friday. The children were excited hearing this and can’t wait to come in tomorrow.
Day 5 of the Templesprings Autumn Holiday club 2024
Everyone was nice and timely today which means the children got registered early and they were able to leave for the park earlier.
Grays beach Park
To mark the final day of the Autumn 2024 holiday club we were able to take out the children to the park for an extended time. Normally we would be back at 12 but we were back at 1 today. The children deserved the extra hour! More children joined in with playing football and playing tag. By the time we were done everyone’s shoes was filled with sand! At the end everyone sat down together emptying out their shoes.
Lunch Time
The lunch today was sandwiches. They were good and they came alongside some sauces and cut up pieces of fruits. the children really enjoyed these and again there was no more food left after everyone was done eating!
Animation Time!
The children finally got to watch the animation created by their imagination and their voices! They were very happy on how it came out. The children were also very proud of how far they came in terms of animation. One or two parents even watched and they enjoyed seeing what their children came up with.
